What origination means
Origination is everything from the first application to the funded deal. It includes intake, credit review, pricing, documents, and approval. An LOS is a loan origination system — the software that runs these steps.
Solifi says its origination connects deal intake, credit workflows, documentation, and approvals. The promise is speed with control. That is the vendor's claim, not our test.
Where manual work hides
Most lenders re-type the same deal three times. Once from the application into the LOS. Once into a pricing sheet. Once into the servicing system after funding.
Each re-key takes minutes and invites errors. Use the tool below to price your own re-keying. Enter your real numbers. If a platform removes that work, the labor value is part of its return.
What to watch in a demo
Ask for a live deal, not a slide deck. Watch how many times a person types the same customer name. Count the clicks from application to approval.
- Show an application arriving from a broker or dealer portal.
- Show the credit decision step and who can override it.
- Show document generation for a real contract type.
- Show the handoff to servicing after funding. Does data move by itself?
A scenario, not a promise
Example: a lender funds 40 deals a month. Staff re-key each deal twice at 6 minutes each. That is 8 hours a month of typing. At a loaded cost of $35 an hour, that is $280 a month. Software that removes it saves that time. Your numbers will differ.
This is a scenario we made up to show the math. It is not a Solifi result.

Manual re-keying cost
Count how many records your team re-types each month and how long each takes. Loaded hourly cost means wage plus benefits and overhead.
| Hours per month | 10.0 |
| Labor value per month | $350 |
| Rekey labor + software per funded deal | $14.00 |
Cost per deal covers only re-keying labor plus the software line item. It is not a full origination cost.
