What end of lease means
Every lease ends one of three ways: the customer returns the equipment, renews the lease, or buys the equipment. Each path has its own billing, tax, and document steps. End of lease is where weak systems create the most manual work, because it touches everything at once.
A worked example
Say 40 leases end next quarter. Ask the demo to show the end-of-lease pipeline: which leases end when, which customers have been notified, and which path each is taking. Then run one buyout all the way through: quote the buyout, invoice it, post the payment, and show the asset come off the books.
Expected output: a pipeline view of upcoming maturities and a buyout processed with correct accounting entries, all inside Business Central.
Demo checks
- Show the upcoming-maturities report.
- Process a buyout: quote, invoice, payment, asset disposal.
- Process a renewal with new terms.
- Process a return and show how the asset is tracked.
The exception to check
Ask what happens when a customer goes silent at maturity — no return, no renewal, no buyout. The system should flag the holdover and keep billing or escalate it, not let the lease sit forgotten.
Also ask how a returned machine is tracked after the lease ends: inspection, repair cost, and resale or re-lease. End-of-lease is where the equipment itself comes back into your hands, and the asset record should follow it.
End-of-lease checks
- Maturity pipeline report demonstrated.
- All three end-of-lease paths processed live.
- Holdover handling is demonstrated.
- Customer notifications are automatic.
- Asset disposal creates correct accounting entries.
