Constellation Lease and Loan Management: The Back Office

What the management solution covers, and the contract types to test before you sign.

What the management solution covers

Constellation lists lease and loan management as its second solution area. Management is everything after booking: billing, payments, modifications, payoffs, and end-of-term.

For an equipment book, the test is contract variety. Ask to see a fair-market-value lease, a TRAC lease, and a loan side by side. Each bills, taxes, and ends differently. A specialist platform should treat all three as native, not custom.

Judge payback honestly

Try the payback tool below with figures from your own quotes: the one-time implementation cost, the monthly labor you expect to save, and the new monthly license. When savings fall short of the added cost, the tool reports no payback instead of hiding it.

Demo checks

  • Book all three contract types and show the billing schedules.
  • Post a payment and show the accounting entries.
  • Modify a lease mid-term and show the re-billing.
  • Run end-of-term on a lease: return, renew, buyout.

The exception to check

Ask how the platform handles a seasonal payment schedule — common in landscaping and agriculture equipment. A management system that handles only clean monthly schedules will force workarounds on a real equipment book.

Also test a lease extension mid-term. Extensions touch billing, tax, and documents at once, and they are common in equipment finance. A clean extension path saves real labor every month; a manual one becomes a recurring spreadsheet.

Then ask how a payoff quote is produced: per-diem interest, fees, and the expiry date of the quote should all be calculated by the system, not estimated by hand.

Payback check

Payback months = one-time cost divided by monthly savings minus monthly added cost. If savings do not beat the added cost, there is no payback.

Payback in about 40.0 months.

This is your scenario, not a vendor promise.
