Constellation Data Migration: Moving Your Book

How to plan a portfolio migration to Constellation, including tie-out and rollback.

Based on public product documentation. We have not tested a private account. Sources checked 2026-11-05.

What migration moves

Migration moves your customers, contracts, balances, payment histories, and documents from the old system to the new one. The payment history matters as much as the balance — auditors and courts both ask for it.

Tie-out is the test

After the move, Constellation's totals must match your old system to the penny: receivables, contract counts, and delinquency buckets. This check is called tie-out. Get the sign-off owner, the number of included test conversions, and the handling for unmapped contracts in writing.

A worked example

Say your book has 1,500 active contracts. A realistic plan runs two full test conversions before cutover, each ending with a tie-out report your controllers sign. Budget your own staff time for those reviews — it is almost always larger than expected.

The exception to check: contracts with seasonal schedules or legacy fee types. Have Constellation convert twenty of your ugliest contracts in the first test, not twenty clean ones.

Also decide who owns document migration. Contract PDFs and signed packages often live in a separate drive, and moving them is a second project with its own mapping and its own tie-out.

Start now

Clean data migrates faster and costs less. Start before you choose a vendor: close dead customer records, fix missing fields, and write down your odd contract types. Track it with the checklist below.
